A sanctuary that always feels like home.

Ahangama · Sri Lanka

The private garden at Khala: a still pool under a broad tree, edged with ferns and monstera against a planted screen.

01The Invitation

A grounded experience.Rooted in intention.

The Nest at Khala: a bedroom with a slatted timber wall, open wardrobe and low morning light across the bed.

02The Space

The nest, the rhythm and the quiet awareness

The Shala at Khala: an open timber pavilion under a tiled roof, set among palms and dense planting, reached by stepping stones across the grass.

You arrive to a place already in rhythm. The ground is already prepared. You simply begin.

Why this space holds

For that week the space carries your name, not ours.

The people behind Khala

The difference between a place that understands the work and one that is renting you rooms. Khala is owned and run by Dan Portal, a meditation guide, and founder of Centered Circles in Cape Town. He knows the work, so a group's needs never have to be explained twice.

The space adapts

Ask for a fire in the garden after dark and it is lit. Ask for water carried into a room, or a corner cleared and tuned for sound, and it is ready before you are. Whatever the work asks of the space, it answers.

Shaped for you

The rooms, the details set out, the way your community are met at the door, all of it shapes to how you work. They should feel they have arrived somewhere that already belongs to your community.

Khala's private garden and pool, framed by dense tropical planting under the tree canopy.

The space and what surrounds it

Not every hour is programmed.

Between sessions the days open up, and your community fill them their own way. Some take the dawn surf, some walk to the point for the boats, some stay in the garden and do nothing at all.

How it works

Yours alone for the week. No other guests.

Rooms

Six rooms for twelve guests, with twins wherever they are needed.

Each day

Breakfast at first light, rooms quietly restored by evening.

Arrivals

From the airport to the garden, every arrival is already arranged.

The table

Long breakfasts. Shared dinners when you want them. Ahangama's best when you don't.

Beyond the property

Surf before breakfast. Fishing boats at the point. Cafés worth lingering in. Open afternoons have somewhere to go.

The process

Bookings in stages, so your community can do the same. The week begins long before anyone boards a plane.

Bring your community.
The space does the rest.
